I moved Mehta Web out of my flat and into an office on Tuesday 17th August, 2010. It was a bit of a defining moment in the company history, to say the least. I was once told that running your own company is like having a child; you need to spend time with it and nurture it constantly in order to make it grow. With that comes some pride when it does grow, so moving my little company into an office really was a very happy moment for me.
Having now worked from Quays Creative for about a week or so, I thought it was a good time to recap. Quays Creative, for those uninitiated, is subsidised office space designed to help small buisnesses grow in their early stages. My desk is in an open plan office which I share with four other people (all of whom are excellent people) from three businesses; Intranet Future, RubberNeck Design, and Jump Creative. This works surprisingly well; a couple of the other businesses work in areas which compliment mine and a few useful partnerships and projects have emerged from this arrangement.
Across the atrium (a general purpose chill-out/meeting area, which clients love) are the guys from Bexmedia and Aproimage; both of whom are full of good advice (some of which got baked into this website; I’m very grateful!). The office is really well presented and is great for taking clients to.
As the week has progressed I’ve found I’ve been pushed more and more to work harder at making Mehta Web a successful business. Since I’ve moved I’ve already created two websites (Mehta Web and IAmGloucestershire365.com) and I’ve got a good list of work in the pipeline. My main reason for moving away from home working was to improve my productivity, so I’m really happy with how it’s gone.
So, all in all I’m happy with the move and looking forward to the future.
